La crisis metropolitana y su incidencia en el Río de la Plata: la percepción hispana (1808-1810)

The Spanish peninsular crisis unleashed a process in the monarchy culminating in its territorial fragmentation, and creating a large number of autonomous political entities. The viceroyalty of Río de la Plata was no exception in this hitherto unheard of situation. The royal civil servants, with a view to keeping these territories dependent on the Metropolis, sought alternatives to prevent the peninsular crisis from extending to the jurisdictions under their tutorage. They designed a watchdog system able to inform on the advancement of any wit hide as against established order who might attempt to undermine their position as immediate representatives of the questioned sovereignity of the Crown.
