This paper examines Bo and Sciascia’s attitude to Montaigne. Both authors recognize the
movement, doubt and uncertainty of life in Montaigne’s writings. Dostoevsky mediates in Bo's relationship
with Montaigne. Bo emphasizes the image of man multiplied ad infinitum and as a manager of absurdity. On
the other hand, to defend himself from accusations of inactive scepticism, Sciascia appeals to Montaignian
