A revision of the diferent parameters of length used to characterize fibres of cotton, wool and others is made.
Then, the author presents what he calls etypical lengthn which is a function of the arithmetic mean and of a dispersion index, whether this is the standard deviation or the unitary variation coefficient. Because of its statistic source and for its proximity to some of those parameters, the typical length can be the most representaive index of a populaion of fibres as to their length.
