«Je ne suis pas philosophe» de Foucault a Montaigne

This paper aims to demonstrate Montaigne’s relevance today, discussing his attitude to
«philosophical activity» and comparing it with Foucault’s. Montaigne, like Foucault, rejects a certain way of
understanding philosophy. In this article, we analyse their conception of philosophy as an «experience», tying
this in with their particular way of writing. After analysing what sort of commitment their «philosophical
activity» entails, the paper concludes by discussing common denominators shared by both these philosophers
and how these shared aspects make them so relevant in today’s world
