Abstract
The economic reforms undertaken in Senegal at the end of the 1970's have obtained rather modest results, despite the aid of the Bretton Woods institutions. The most serious of theses results, now in the 1990's, are the fateful consequences of this type of policies in the social sphere and the social mutations and political transformations wich have taken place. Analysis of the situation requires a historical perspective and the identification of the principal cycles of the productive process of the postcolonial state, along with detailed examination of the social and economic evolutions which have occurred and their relationship not only with the state but also with the population.
