Escenas de la vida bohemia. Una aproximación a la creatividad amoral del "submundo" urbano

On the threshold of the nineteenth century, concepts such as freedom, independence, rebelliousness or hope were feasible idealities that, when related to any kind of artistic expression, generated what came to be called bohemia - an “underworld” of amoral creativity that was interpreted in a multiplicity of ways, very often acquiring a dimensionality different to that conceived at its genesis, but always maintaining an atmosphere of exclusively masculine communion. Women were present in the experience of every bohemian man, but only as a mere accessory or playing only a supporting role in those wasted leisure years of youth, never as full or equal members of that community of dreamers. However, beyond this limited view, members of the “female gender” also served as standard-bearers of the world of bohemia, sharing their spirituality, mythification and progressive decadence with men in this noble and brave way of sculpting life.
