Resum


Recently, the proliferation of social networking is becoming a media phenomenon of cyberspace. Apart from horizontal social networks, whose purpose is socializing, vertical networks, built around a common interest, are more frequent every day. Within vertical networks we can find “learning communities” or “communities of practice”, where members share experiences, exchange information and knowledge and aim to improve their competence in their professional practice. The educational sector could not remain uninvolved in this virtual trend. This article aims to analyze, through the DIMglobal learning community, the dynamics of a social networking for educational purposes (infrastructure and network policy, forms and levels of participation), the content types that are generated in it, and their effectiveness and influence in the professional practice of its members.
