Desafíos de la biografía en la historia contemporánea

Joseba Agirreazkuenaga Zigorraga, Mikel Urquijo

The relationship between History and Biography has always posed problems, since its origins in classical Greece. The evolution of this relationship is analysed up until the point when biography becomes a source of historical knowledge. An overview of the place of biography in historiography is presented and the role of biography facing the epistemological challenges for the development of the historical sciences is discussed. A distinction is made between the different biographical genres and the authors provide an analysis and describe the state of the question of biographical dictionaries, including dictionary projects that are underway.
