El període islàmic de la nostra història (segles VIII-XII) segons la versió actual del "Diccionari d'Història de Catalunya"

Pere Balañà i Abadia

Resum

In accordance with the success of the translation of the Chambers Dictionary of World History into catalan, the same publishers designed a Dictionary of Catalonian History (Barcelona, Edicions 62, 2nd edition, 1993). The task was assigned to several specialists in each age or period, but the final results are not fully acceptable. Thus the medieval times (VIII-XII centuries), with the well-known relations between the Islamic power settled in Spain (Al-Andalus) and the growing Christians authorities in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, have been clearly decreased. Only 74 of the 4.549 items (1,64%) speak about this subject matter along all the compilation. In despite of some inexplicable omissions of concepts like “arabic” or “berber”, the autor thinks that with only a few 50 new items, the true history of Catalonia would be more accurated.
